The prompt
Here is a system prompt (or custom instructions) that has grown too long: [paste it]. Newer models tend to do better with lean, outcome-first prompts. Rewrite mine: 1. Sort every sentence into: goal, success criteria, hard constraints, sources to use, output format, stop rules, or 'doesn't change behaviour'. 2. Remove repeated rules, style lines the model already follows, and examples that add nothing. List what you removed and why, in a table. 3. Write the new prompt in this order: goal (1-2 lines), what good output looks like, constraints, sources, format, when to stop or ask. 4. Keep every rule that protects safety, privacy or facts, even if it seems wordy. 5. Give me a short test plan: three inputs I should run on the old and new prompt to check nothing got worse, and what to compare. Aim for less than half the original length.Find similar in the app →
